My Favourite Spots to Elope in the Blue Mountains

I get asked all the time where to elope in the Blue Mountains… we are truly spoilt for choice here! Below is a handful of my favourite spots, the ones I keep coming back to with couples time and time again. Some are a short stroll from the car, others need a proper hike, but every one of them has earned its place on this list because I've stood there myself, at sunrise or sunset, and thought: this is it!!

That being said, this certainly isn't every spot I love. Over the years I've stumbled across more lookouts, tracks and hidden corners than I could ever list, some so tucked away they don't even have names. But hopefully this gives you a solid starting point for planning and picturing your day.

A quick note: please always check for track closures before locking in a location! A number of the spots on this list are currently closed, so double check with NPWS before you plan your ceremony around one of them.

Rigby Hill

This incredible spot is along Bells Line of Road which is technically the other side of the mountains and is accessible via the Pierces Pass carpark. I highly recommend being here for sunset and dusk – it is pure magic!

Walls Lookout

This lookout offers maximum reward for very minimal effort! This spot is also accessible via the Pierces Pass carpark and is only a short walk (about 1.5kms).

Lockleys Pylon

This one is for my adventure loving couples who are up for a bit of a hike. Hands down this is my favourite walk to do in the Blue Mountains. The walk is nice and flat for most of the way, and once you get up the top of Lockleys you won’t be disappointed with the view. To get here you’ll need to drive along a dirt road for a little while before you reach the start of the track.

Boars Head

Just before Cahill’s Lookout in Katoomba there’s a little track that leads you down to Boars Head which overlooks Narrow Neck. This spot would be great for couples wanting to elope with just themselves as there’s not a lot of room for additional people at this spot.

Landslide Lookout

Along Cliff drive in Katoomba you’ll find this beautiful spot. After you’ve climbed down a couple of stairs and gone to the left of the fenced lookout you’ll find this rock that is perfect for holding your ceremony. There are other great spots further along the track too.

Anvil Rock

One of my most frequented locations, and for good reason! It’s one of those spots that ticks a lot of boxes – accessibility, amazing views and more times than not you’ll have this spot to yourself. The Wind Eroded Cave is right next to the carpark as well which offers the opportunity for some more unique shots!

Butterbox Point

If you continue along from the start of the Lockleys Pylon track, you’ll eventually end up at Butterbox Point. This spot boasts incredible views everywhere you look, even from where you park your car! The drive to get here is long, but once you’ve parked it’s super accessible and easy to find spots for photos.

THINGS I WISH EVERY COUPLE KNEW BEFORE ELOPING HERE

  1. Timing & Light

    Sunrise and sunset here shift a lot depending on season - what's magic hour gold in summer might be gone in twenty minutes come winter. Always worth chatting to your photographer about timing and what they would recommend.

  2. Weather Check

    The Blue Mountains can be unpredictable, so having a backup in case of unfavourable weather is always a good idea! Mountain lookouts are exposed, and wind can be a lot stronger out there than it looks from the carpark.

  3. Guest Access

    If you're bringing even a handful of guests, some spots genuinely can't fit more than the two of you and me - worth checking a location can actually hold your numbers before you fall in love with the photos of it.

  4. Sharing & Caring

    A lot of these lookouts are also popular hiking spots, so you might not have it entirely to yourselves - especially around sunset when everyone's chasing the same light. Worth deciding in advance how you feel about that. And wherever you end up, treat it with care - take out anything you bring in, stick to the track, and leave it exactly as beautiful as you found it for the next couple who falls in love with it too.
